The Grand Ole Opry is the longest-running live radio broadcast in American history and the institution that built Nashville into the country music capital of the world. Backstage Tour Add-On
Add a post-show backstage tour for an additional $30–$40 per person. You walk the stage, see the dressing rooms, and get the full behind-the-scenes experience. Worth it for serious country music fans. Book in advance — backstage tours sell out on busy nights.
What Happens at a Grand Ole Opry Show
The Grand Ole Opry format is unlike any other concert. A typical show features eight or more artists performing two or three songs each — a mix of established legends, rising stars, and Opry members making their regular appearances. You might see a Hall of Fame inductee followed by an up-and-coming artist followed by a bluegrass legend. The variety is the point.
Shows run approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes with no intermission. Doors open at 6pm for a 7pm show. The famous circle of wood from the original Ryman Auditorium stage is set into the Opry House stage — every artist who performs stands on the same wood where Dolly Parton, Hank Williams, and Patsy Cline once stood.
The show is still broadcast live on WSM 650 AM — the same station that has broadcast the Opry since 1927. You can hear it on the radio from anywhere in the country on a clear night.
The Opry and Dolly Parton
Dolly Parton became a member of the Grand Ole Opry on January 4, 1969 — one of the proudest moments of her career. She returned to the Opry stage throughout her life, most recently in the years leading up to her death on August 25, 2026.
The Opry announced special tribute programming following her passing. A night at the Grand Ole Opry in the weeks and months following Dolly’s death carries a weight and meaning it has never had before — you’re standing in the institution she loved, on the stage she called home.

The honest answer: if you can only do one, do the Ryman for the history and intimacy. If you’re a serious country music fan and want the full Opry member experience with eight-plus artists, do the Opry House. Many Nashville visitors do both on the same trip.
Getting to the Grand Ole Opry from Downtown Nashville
The Grand Ole Opry is located in the Opryland area — about 8 miles east of downtown Nashville, near the airport. It is not walkable from Broadway.

- Drive and park free — free parking is available at Opry Mills Mall adjacent to the Opry House. The easiest and cheapest option if you have a car.
- Hotel shuttle — several Opryland area hotels offer shuttles to and from the Opry. If you’re staying near Opryland, confirm shuttle availability when you book.
Grand Ole Opry Tips
- Book tickets in advance. Saturday shows sell out weeks ahead. Tuesday and Wednesday shows have better availability.
- Arrive at 6pm when doors open. Early entry lets you explore the lobby exhibits and get settled before the 7pm start.
- Wednesday is the best value night. Tickets start at $53 on Wednesdays — the lowest prices of the week with the same quality show.
- The backstage tour is worth it for music fans. Book it in advance — it sells out on popular nights.
- Every seat has a good view. The Opry House is designed for sightlines. Don’t overpay for front row unless you specifically want to be close to the stage.
- Plan your ride home before you go. Request your rideshare before the final song — thousands of people leave at the same time and surge pricing spikes immediately after the show ends.
