Dolly’s Life of Many Colors Museum takes its name from one of Dolly Parton’s most beloved songs — “Coat of Many Colors,” her 1971 autobiographical ballad about her mother sewing her a coat from rags and the poverty and pride of her East Tennessee childhood. The museum name reflects the full spectrum of her life — not just the rhinestones and the hits, but the roots, the faith, the family, and the journey.
The museum spans the third floor of the SongTeller Hotel and is entirely separate from the hotel — you don’t need to be a hotel guest to visit. Public tickets are available through the museum’s own website at dollyslifeofmanycolors.com.

Dolly’s Writing Room
The songwriting story — how Dolly Parton wrote over 3,000 songs, what her creative process looked like, and the stories behind her most iconic compositions. “Jolene” and “I Will Always Love You” were written on the same day in 1973. The museum tells that story and dozens more like it.
Hall of Fame Room
Her awards — 11 Grammy Awards, multiple Country Music Association Awards, American Music Awards, and every major honor country music has to offer across six decades of recording. The full scope of what she accomplished laid out in one room.
Life on the Road
The touring years — the buses, the stages, the road that took her from the Smoky Mountains to sold-out arenas around the world. This section covers Dolly as a live performer and what it meant to tour as one of country music’s biggest acts across five decades.
Imagination Library
The literacy program that may be her greatest legacy — started in Sevier County, Tennessee in 1995 and grown to over one billion books donated to children worldwide. The museum dedicates significant space to the Imagination Library, honoring the philanthropic work she considered among the most important of her life.
Smoky Mountain Roots
Where it all started — Locust Ridge, Tennessee, the one-room cabin, the family of 12 children, the Appalachian culture that shaped everything Dolly became. The museum connects her global stardom back to the East Tennessee roots she was always proud of.
